What steps should you take if you detect a hydraulic fluid leak at a line or hose on the UH-60?

Isolate the leak, safely shut down affected systems, tag out, remove power if required, place absorbents, and report.

When you detect a hydraulic fluid leak on a UH-60, the priority is to contain and isolate the problem and stop further fluid loss. Start by isolating the leak—shut or close the affected hydraulic valve or system to prevent pressure and fluid from driving more leakage. Safely shut down the affected systems to reduce hydraulic pressure and power to the leak area, and apply a lockout/tagout if required to prevent inadvertent re-energizing. If needed, remove power to ensure pumps or actuators don’t operate while the leak is being addressed. Place absorbents to contain spilled fluid and protect the environment and crew, then report the condition to maintenance or your supervisor so proper repairs can be planned. Ignoring a leak, trying to “wash it away” by increasing engine power, or replacing the entire system without containment are not appropriate steps and can create unsafe conditions.

Ignore it if it is small; continue flight.

Replace the entire hydraulic system immediately without isolation.

Increase the engine power to wash away the leak.
